Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony

Melbourne was really busy last night with the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony going on. The streets were packed around Federation Square and along the Yarra as people were getting together to check out what the fuss was all about.

Me, Shane and Bek walked into Fed Square and met up with J-Unit and Ruth. Watched the big screen for a bit.

Fireworks were going off everywhere around Melbourne.

A short walk towards the Yarra, to see the fish. They had all the AFL team captains walk the baton along it.

The Arts Centre grassy area was covered in sand for a ‘Beach’ scene. Pepsi: $4, Beer $4. Hmmm

From what I saw of the opening ceremony, it was just weird. Flying tram, a goose that turns into a flying lady, flying Koalas… very strange. I did however, love the fact that the Cat Empire played while the athletes were entering the MCG. The Cat Empire rock.

Actually it was a duck but it still made no sense, like most of the ceremony. I got to go to the rehearsal on monday night which was good. I must say that having seen it twice, it makes about the same amount of sense. However, it was great to be able to actually hear the Cat Empire without much crowd/athlete noise or commentators. They were great.
