Apple announce the iPhone

At the MacWorld Keynote in San Francisco, Apple have announced the iPhone, along with Apple TV and other products.
I have been especially interested to see what the iPhone was actually going to be like. From my experience, every mobile phone that has ever been made is crap. Crap! They all lack something, whether it be bluetooth, or they just have a crap menu, or crap buttons.. I could go on forever. Apple have taken up the challenge of creating a revolutionary phone, that is actually revolutionary.
Some of the things I really like are that it’s a smartphone, but it doesn’t have a stylus. It doesn’t even have buttons on the front. It’s totally ‘touch’ driven.
It also has a sensor so that when you put the phone to your head, it will switch the display off to save power. It also has an accelerometer to detect whether the unit should be showing the display in portrait or landscape mode. That is just awesome.
Unfortunately, we probably won’t see the iPhone in Australia until 2008. Maybe by then we might actually have some decent mobile plans with bundled data, rather than the ridiculous prices we’re subjected to currently.

One quote I found amusing from the Macworld.com news cover:
Closing the proceedings, pop singer John Mayer — who has stood on stage with Jobs several times over the past few years — played his hit songs “Gravity” and “Waiting On the World to Change.”
“Steve Jobs and Apple Inc. just make life more fun,” said Mayer in between songs. “It’s the exact opposite of terrorism.”
Bawhahahah!

I’m with you - I can’t wait for this one, though it remains to be seen if they will take full advantage of the opportunity to shake things up a bit. Eg. This thing has WiFi & OS X, will Skype work on it? Also along that same vein it’d be great if it was an open development platform so we could see ppl writing some more cool apps for it…
Fair Argument Boy, Nokia was once the producer of a phone which was near flawless, the Nokia 5110. Its hardly ever dropped out. The phone was damn near indestructible (mine was dropped out of numerous car, busses, bags and survived 2 years of drinking at uni, including one instance of the whole phone being imersed in a jug of beer and still surviving to make calls on. Absolutely brilliant.
On the subject of data prices. Having recently switched plans to the Nokia N80, which im going to have to take back due to numerous faults, the most frequent being the fact that sometimes when i make and recieve calls the phone sounds like your underwater and you cant understand, nor be understood by the person on the other end. crap.
anyway - im was promised 2 months of free internet on the new phone, which was a wank, because the internet on the phone is slow and shitful. i get my bill for my second month and optus have charged me $100 for internet usage!!!! CUNTS !!!!
Of course, i rang and abused them about it, to which they have promised to delete the amount from my bill. I cant belive they missed with, the whole bill was for $180, 80 for the cap and $100 for the “Free” internet.
OPTUS = WANKERS !!
