Royal Crown Revue and Mad Caddies

So I went to the gig on Friday night with Bek and Slater. Met up with Boof and Amber just after the Mad Caddies started. The Forum on the corner of Flinders and Russel Sts is the craziest place to go see bands play. It kinda reminded me of a swing-type club because it had booths take up half of the place. It was really big and it had a dark blue painted roof that was partitally illuminated to give an outdoor dusk/night-time feel but actually being inside.

The Mad Caddies came on at about 9:30pm and the lead singer told a story about how he put his back out that day, and the doc told him that he should stay in hospital for the next week. So, as you can imagine, he didn’t move around a whole lot, but it was a good show. Most of the tracks I recognised from the albums I had gotten from Fucko and Boof.

RCR was as awesome as ever. If you haven’t heard of them, they are a very cool swing band. Probably one of the most famous ones playing today. Their shows are always predictable, but still exciting to watch. About 2/3 of the way through the set, they start playing Hey Pachuco!. (Note: If you haven’t heard this song, go and download it!)

Towards the end of the song, a couple of the guys do solos that last for 5+ mins which go off! The trumpet guy goes first and blows me away every time. It almost inspires me to learn how to play a trumpet. The double bass guy does stuff you can only imagine on it.. except balance on it like the guy from the Living End.

The most impressive part is when Danny Glass starts his solo. He begins by playing the double bass with his drum sticks, while the double bass guy drives the strings. He then goes on to do his own solo, playing the drums faster than is humanly possible. He plays just about everything, even do a little percussion routine just using his drum sticks. If you happen to download the a live version of Hey Pachuco, you can get some idea… but it’s nothing like being there.

Apart from all the crazy ass stoners smoking weed everywhere, it rocked. RCR would definately be the most skilled musicians ever, except maybe for Mick :) A big boo hiss goes out to Nelsie for piking. Boo Hiss!

Also, the weather has been awesome this weekend. Bek and I are sitting on the balcony in the sun with our laptops, and listening to some weird lounge music. We bought some goodies at the market and going to fire up the BBQ for a meat fest tonight :)

Cool stuff at Work

I hung back at work to score a couple of beers and some nice finger food :)

Jeremy, Rob and Andy @ the IC

I’m also getting close to finishing my webcam server. You should be able to see me (in the store room) on the cam at batman.andybotting.com. Everybody’s favourite telco is hosting this box on a 100Mb link to the net. Rock on :)

Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger gig

It went off! Reel Big Fish played first (not sure why, GF were supposed to be supporting) and were a bit slow. Maybe they they realised that nobody likes their new stuff. Especially their 3rd album Cheer Up. Would have to the biggest sell-out album of all time. Then the old favourites started coming out, and we hit the pit. Beer, Thank you for not moshing, Sell out, Take on me, Everything sucks, She has a girlfriend now and The Set Up.

Goldfinger were even better, and I have the briuses to prove it.

I’m going to Royal Crown Revue and Mad Caddies on Friday night. If anybody wants to come, it’s $50 a ticket (ouch!) but it should be another awesome show
